How Time Flies - May 2019
The How Time Flies concert opened with the Muppets theme song which had the audience laughing, helped no doubt by the Muppet face masks all the choir were wearing. This was followed by many beautiful tunes sung by soloists, groups of singers and of course the whole choir.
As usual in the interval the singers served the audience with homemade cakes and tea or coffee.

The second half started with more humour with a group dressed up as bunnies with fluffy ears and little tails while they sang and acted to The White Rabbit song “I’m Late”, which was much enjoyed by singers and audience alike.
After we had all calmed down, we were treated to more beautiful music on the theme of time, all of which were very much enjoyed as could be told by the applause at the end.
Thank you singers for a very enjoyable evening.

day trip to Lacock - May 2019
A full coach set off to Lacock Abbey and village in Wiltshire; we even had a few husbands with us!
We were dropped off right outside the gate to the Abbey which, despite being a family home since the Reformation, still has its cloister. Much of the ground floor is as it was when the nuns lived there, though very worn of course. Upstairs is much more comfortable and we were able to wander through many furnished rooms.
The unmissable sight was the small oriel window which was the subject of the first modern photograph, nearby was a replica of the simple camera which took that photo.
As at all National Trust houses there was a lovely café in the outbuildings for coffee or lunch. After a wander through the Brewhouse and then the grounds it was time to look in the interesting museum of photography just outside the gate where you could learn much and also view the current exhibition.
Then there was time to walk around the village of Lacock itself, much of which is also owned by the National Trust. Many of the properties have been used in films and TV programmes over the years. With different eras represented the whole place was quite charming with several places to have a bite to eat or drink.
Everybody was prompt back on the coach with no-one lost and after an uneventful journey back we were all home by 6.30. Thanks to Maria for driving us so safely!

Entertainment at the 2018 Christmas meeting
Three members of the committee performed a WI version of the familiar sketch by John Cleese, Ronnie Barker and Ronnie Corbet.
Very amusing, we know our place! Especially those of us who made the mince pies and served the mulled wine and coffees.
After which Billy Solo treated us to songs from the 60's to the 90's. The performance finished with a selection of Christmas songs which everyone joined in singing and rattling our tambourines.
Singers' concerts december 2018
The Singers Concerts in December were another great
success for the group with two sell out nights.
Clearly the Singers thoroughly enjoy themselves too!
The Singers also performed beautifully at the Wyke Regis WI Carol Service held at All Saints Church on Thursday 22nd December.
These flowers were all gathered from the garden of the WI Hall to display at the June 2018 monthly meeting.
Singer’s may 2018 show
For two evenings the Singer’s group invited their audiences to get ‘In The Mood’ , the title of their Spring Show.
With songs happy, funny, pensive, inspiring, this eclectic choice of music was very well received
With home made cakes, coffee and a raffle in the interval an enjoyable evening was had by all.

Addition to the institute’s textile collection
Recently two new linen tablecloths, all ready printed with embroidery transfers were donated to the Institute.
Member , Jenny Pering, offered to embroider the cloths and one is being added to the Institute’s textile collection. Wyke Regis WI is fortunate to have such a talented needlewoman and is grateful for Jenny’s work.
All the textiles belonging to the Institute were listed at The National Needlework Archive in 2004 along with a DVD showing the collection. (A copy DVD is owned by the Institute.) This tablecloth will be added to the Archive. Information on the Institute’s textiles can be see on the ‘Archives and Photo Gallery’ page of this website

WYKE REGIS WI – TEDDIES FOR LITTLE PATIENTS
One of the 14 interest subgroups at Wyke Regis is the craft group. A group of ladies come together in our hall each Friday afternoon to practise various crafts, drink tea, eat cake and chat. One of their continuing projects is knitting teddies for the young patients in the Kingfisher children’s ward at our local hospital, Dorset County Hospital, Dorchester.
Over the last three years they have supplied 1500 teddies! One is given to each child attending the ward and we have many anecdotes of how these little cuddly toys have brought comfort to children who find themselves in distressing circumstances. One little boy of 7 was admitted following a road traffic accident. Thankfully no-one was seriously hurt, but that young child was seen cuddling his teddy at school over the following weeks, as he came to terms with the trauma. A little girl of 5 was surprised and pleased to be given a teddy even though she had been admitted to the ward only as a day patient for investigative procedures.
The ladies of Wyke Regis WI Craft Group themselves supply as many of the materials needed as they can, but they do make pleas for double knit wool and suitable stuffing. So do get in touch via their website if you can help. Wykeregiswi.org.uk
