A few years ago, at the National Federation of Women's Institutes Annual General Meeting in Liverpool, each delegate was given a very small oak sapling. The delegate, Gill Graham, brought it home to Dorset and for several years it was tended by Carol Rice in her garden. When large and strong enough to plant in a permanent position, a plaque was made and a small group visited Abbotsbury Tropical Gardens for a planting ceremony. The oldest member of Wyke Regis WI, Josie Wyeth-Gill, was invited to perform the ceremony. Afternoon tea was enjoyed after the ceremony.
